The GEKO was founded in 1999 as a merger of PTT-Union/Union PTT, VSPB/SSFP, SPV/SBP, VSTTB/ASFTT and VSFP/FPSA. In 2010, it merged with Comedia to form the new trade union Syndicom. It was active in several parts of the postal services.

The logo is a red ball with four white arched lines with the union name in four languages (including Rumantsch). The flag is white with the logo [1,2,3].
